What is a Healthy Weight?

Do you worry that you weigh too much or too little? Use a BMI calculator to check if they are a healthy weight but the charts are not really accurate for people under 18 especially during puberty when your body changes so much.

We all grow at different rates so if you are worried, it is worth coming in to talk to us about it. We can look at all the things that might be affecting your weight. Being overweight can be a issue if you don’t feel good about how you look.
Sometimes, it can lead to health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure and generally feeling low.

Feeling low about your weight?

Sometimes you can worry so much about being the right weight that it takes over your life. As well as eating too much, you can eat too little and exercise too much. This is not great for your body because your cells need food to stay healthy.

All of this can be difficult to deal with. Sometimes it is not about the food or exercise, but having something which you can control and you can control the amount of food you eat or don’t eat.  Sometimes you control your food because you feel low or stressed.

 

What you might feel and do:

  • Be really unhappy about the way you look
  • Become thin
  • Feel fat
  • Become obsessed with eating and weight control
  • Only eat certain foods, avoiding fatty foods
  • Exercise all the time
  • Not go to places where you might have to eat with others
  • Try and vomit after meals
  • Have a binge when other people are not around.
